Maria brings over 15 years of combined human resources, benefits, recruiting, and office management experience to her role as HR Associate with VMSI. Putting her HR-related experience to good use, Maria is responsible for a number of HR functions, including all payroll responsibilities – from timekeeping to tax-related reporting – and will partner with the Director, Human Resources in administering human resources programs that include Affirmative Action and EEO, benefits and compensation, employee onboarding, and regulatory compliance.
Experience in a variety of industries, including Inova Health Systems and a Washington, DC based law firm, has left Maria well-versed in working with internal and external clients in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Multi-tasking and organization has been a must – and skills that Maria’s embraced! Friendly and direct, Maria knows how to get the job done, a fact that’s reflected in her can-do attitude.

AKA: “The Crackerjack”
As the Operations Specialist, Heather's role offers direct assistance to the Vice President and CEO, and provides overall support across the corporate office. In addition to her sunny disposition and can-do attitude, Heather brings over 10 years of experience in office management and administrative support.
Heather is used to wearing multiple hats and truly embodies the “Whatever—Whenever” mentality that VMSI stands for. Her hard work and dedication over the 6 years she spent at Safe Start Baby took her from being a part time Administrative Assistant, to the role of Vice President. Never hesitating to do whatever needed to be done, it was not out of character to find her donning a tool belt or conducting a babyproofing assessment herself if one of the field employees was out unexpectedly, in order to keep the commitment they had made to the client. Heather’s most recent experience as the sole Administrative Assistant at the Virginia Spine Institute for an Executive team of 8 and office of 70+ employees has bolstered her experience supporting multiple executives and providing support across multiple departments, while maintaining an efficient and smoothly running office. Heather’s experience and expertise make her a fantastic addition to our corporate team!

AKA: “The Executioner”
Emily provides direct project administration to all VMSI customer engagements assisting VMSI’s corporate Program Management Office (PMO) to ensure service execution. Additionally, she provides support to other corporate departments including Human Resources, Operations, Recruiting, Proposals and Business Development.
She is a cheerful, service-oriented problem solver who expertly facilitates communications between VMSI headquarters and our various projects throughout the United States. By interacting daily with staff supporting all VMSI customers, Emily ensures VMSI employees have the tools necessary to effectively deliver. Emily leads VMSI’s project tracking and reporting systems the company relies on for efficient operations, and creates and maintains associated processes, artifacts, and repositories. Prior to VMSI, Emily provided Administrative, HR, facility, and project support for 100+ employees at the DHL Same Day Corporate Office.
Emily graduated Cum Laude from James Madison University with a BS in Psychology.

AKA: “The Fireball”
In her role as Program Manager, Megan supports VMSI’s clients and employees to ensure we are exceeding their expectations. Megan comes to VMSI with over 10 years of combined experience in Program Coordination and Management, Administrative Support & Education Management. She is a self-starter with strong leadership and relationship management skills and has the capability to quickly adapt to change.
Prior to joining the VMSI team, Megan worked for a professional services and recruiting firm providing support in all aspects of program execution and helped to ensure the delivery of client satisfaction for a portfolio consisting of 250+ consultants spanning 50 government agencies in 32 states. She also served as a Project Manager overseeing a commercial contract and government contract for 20 personnel.
Megan first started out her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught multiple grades including First, Third, and Fourth. Out of them her favorite was teaching the third graders. They were always inquisitive and eager to learn. There was never a day that passed where she didn’t have a good laugh about something one of her students would say. “Kids say the darndest things!”
Megan studied at Radford University in Radford, Virginia where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Mathematics and Special Education.

AKA: "The Hammer"
Kylene joins VMSI with 8 years of government contracting experience supporting various DoD agencies. She is a results driven volume recruiter with a strong commitment to the mission and needs of the client. As the Recruiting Director, she works closely with our program management team to provide recruiting and candidate coverage for all of our existing and future vacancies on our prime Federal contracts throughout the United States. Exceling in this position requires a dedicated work ethic, and commitment to finding just the right candidates for our open billable slots as well as for bids and proposals.
Kylene grew up in Northern VA, attended Fairfax High School, Hyde School (Bath, ME) and Christopher Newport University, earning her B.A. in Communications. She then earned her M.A. in Human Resources Management and graduate certificate in Organizational Development from Marymount University. Kylene takes pride and ownership in VMSI’s recruiting process, and has the “Whatever it takes” attitude that has made VMSI so successful! Her teamwork mentality and dedication to building strong relationships with program managers and customers have been key in her success as a recruiter. With a deep understanding of quick turnaround deadlines and the importance of fulfilling our customers’ mission, Kylene is a valuable and key component of our team!

AKA: “The Jackie of All Trades”
Jackie brings over 20 years’ experience and dedication to her role as Vice President and Facility Security Officer. She provides full operational support to all corporate and remote employees to ensure individual and corporate success. With a role that touches all VMSI departments, she is an integral resource to all of our employees and customers providing support in all areas of operations: finance, government compliance, information technology, as well as industrial security and background screening. Jackie’s versatility in the small business and Government contracting industries allows VMSI to offer top-notch service and reliability to our stakeholders, customers and customer-facing employees
Jackie has supported small businesses for 20 years, including direct support of Government contractors for 11 years. Throughout her career she has balanced supporting multiple functions within an organization including Human Resources, Operations, Business Development, and offering ad hoc support wherever and whenever needed.

AKA: “The Aussie”
Katherine brings more than 20 years' experience in human resources and administration to her role as VMSI's Director of Human Resources. In this position, Katherine oversees, manages and administers all human resource functions for the Company, including benefits management, compliance, and performance management. She also has oversight of VMSI's payroll function.
Most recently, Katherine was the Manager of Human Resources and Administration for a small Government contractor, where she was responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of functions that included compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, and office administration. She also served as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Directors, and was a member of the 401k Investment Committee. Katherine prides herself on a can-do attitude, strong employee relations skills, and a knack for getting into the details.
Katherine holds her Society for Human Resource Management – Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation, and has been a member of the Society since 2006.

AKA: "The Energizer Bunny"
In her role as Director of Capture and Business Development, Lauren provides support and oversight to the entire VMSI pre-award process. Lauren brings over 15 years of experience in sales, business development and marketing, and over 8 years in proposal management. It's been said that, "you can hear her smile over the phone." Her sunny disposition and endless energy helps her keep up with the demands of the job!
Prior to joining the VMSI team, Lauren worked for three professional services government contracting firms providing support in all aspects of capture, sales, proposals, marketing, recruiting, and program management. She has interacted with nearly every Federal agency in some capacity, and has worked on hundreds of proposal responses. Lauren has managed both sales and proposal staff, training and working under Shipley methods.
Lauren started out her professional career in the real estate industry, where she sold, leased and managed commercial office space in the Northern VA area. After eight years negotiating and managing property contracts, Lauren decided to take a career turn and jump into the government contracting arena. She’s never looked back!
Lauren grew up in Northern Virginia, attending Chantilly High School and going on to study at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA where she earned a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and English.

AKA: “The Irishman”
Ken joined the VMSI Team as the Vice President overseeing operations and delivery, and has since been promoted to COO. Ken is responsible for supporting the CEO in developing, executing, and managing VMSI’s strategic business plan, with an emphasis on operations, programs, and execution, and to ensure our mission, “To be the BEST DECISION our Clients make”, is unequivocally achieved.
Ken served over 21 years in the United States Air Force in an array of leadership positions managing and leading contracting teams worldwide. Additionally, his breadth of experience and knowledge spans across budget, finance, communications, and program management.
He concluded his distinguished Air Force career as the Superintendent and Senior Enlisted Advisor of the Resource Management Directorate at the White House Communications Agency where he was directly responsible for managing budget planning and execution, accounting, and contracting for this elite 1200-person agency. While serving at the White House, Ken’s leadership was instrumental in providing “Presidential Quality” support for this “no fail” environment directly supporting the President, Vice President, First Lady, Senior White House Staff, National Security Staff, United States Secret Service and White House Military Office.
Upon his retirement, Ken was inducted into the White House Communications Agency Hall of Fame, a recognition reserved for the best of the best, recognizing his astute support to the Agency for over 8 years. Additionally, Ken is a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for his noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to community, state and our nation.

Shane Moore, a service-disabled veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps served 4 years and was honorably-medically discharged as a Corporal. Shane studied at George Mason University for his undergraduate education in Management & Human Resources and ultimately continued on to advanced studies at the University of Virginia in Human Resources.
Prior to founding Veterans Management Services, Inc. (VMSI), Shane dedicated 10 years as the President of YRCI, a DC Based consulting practice which he sold in 2011 to start VMSI. Before joining YRCI, Shane founded GlobalTek, Inc., an Information Technology Staffing company in Northern Virginia that he sold in 2001.
When starting VMSI, Shane wanted to create a corporate culture where customer service was the paramount goal of each and every employee. Customer service, which started out as a way of doing business quickly became the bedrock from which VMSI’s culture was truly born and ultimately our corporate mission solidified: “To be the BEST DECISION our Clients make”.
Shane has found his greatest passion lies within providing opportunities for and helping our Veterans and has dedicated the past 15 years to donating and raising funds to support local Veteran assistance groups. Committed to “taking care of our own”, both Shane and VMSI focus outreach, fund raising and charitable giving exclusively on programs that benefit our U.S. Veterans with a focus on our Wounded Warriors. Additionally, Shane is proud and often heard bragging that over 50% of VMSI is made up of Veterans having served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
