Each month, we feature an employee and veteran who proudly served in the US Armed Forces and honor them by highlighting their service and VMSI employment.  This month, we are thrilled to honor Dale Aubin for our April VetSpot!

  • Name:  Dale Aubin
  • Rank: Sgt (E-5)
  • Branch:  United States Army
  • Years of Service: 6.5 years
  • Awards or medals: Good Conduct Medal, 2nd Award; Army Commendation Medal, 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Expert Badge Rifle: M-16.

Dale’s father, brother, and sister also served in the armed forces, and Dale considered it his patriotic duty to join the Army.

Dale supported the U.S. Army Intelligence Group as a Administrative Liaison and especially enjoyed the discipline, respect, camaraderie, travel and friendship he experienced throughout his time in the Army. Some of the memorable locations he traveled were Paris, France; Innsbruck, Austria; Salisburg, Switzerland; and the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

An unforgettable experience occurred after Dale won the prestigious Soldier of the Year award in 1980 while stationed in Germany. This honor is granted to a select few each year after winning the Army’s Best Warrior Competition, which encompasses a multitude of events testing physical fitness, knowledge of weaponry, and ability to complete battle drills. As a part of the award, Dale was given the opportunity to travel through West Berlin and enter East Berlin via “Checkpoint Charlie”. Very few American soldiers had the ability to visit both sides of Berlin during the Cold War, so Dale kept a piece of the Berlin Wall as a historically significant memento.

Dale currently supports VMSI’s VA SAO East contract in Network Contracting Office (NCO) 1 as a Contract Specialist, providing assistance in issuing and administering construction maintenance projects in support of VA-CWM.  Dale is a true rockstar, and we have received a multitude of kudos from our various clients detailing his accomplishments and outstanding support.

Dale recommends these tips for anyone transitioning into civilian life:

  • Take some time off before joining the civilian work force.
  • Your discipline and skills will be an asset in applying for jobs and seeking interviews.
  • Try to apply what you learn in your military life and reach out to your community and help others.

Thank you for your service, Dale, and for sharing your experiences with the #VMSIFamily!
