As we welcome the first signs of spring weather, VMSI would like to honor Gabe DeFillo for our March VetSpot!

  • Name:  Gabe Defillo
  • Rank: Major
  • Branch:  United States Air Force
  • Years of Service: 13 years

Gabe made the decision to join the U.S. Air Force because he wanted to acquire a range of skills, overcome new challenges, experience the world, serve his country and provide for his family. His primary interests were the opportunity to experience military life as well as meeting and becoming close with a diverse group of people.

While providing support as a Force Support Officer and Logistics Readiness Officer, he appreciated his deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he served alongside Army Soldiers and Navy Seaman in a Joint Environment. As part of his initial desire to join the military, Gabe has had the opportunity to visit several countries throughout his years with the Air Force. His fondest memories were times spent in Spangdahlem, Germany due to the small towns surrounding the base and close proximity to neighboring countries.

Gabe currently supports our VA SAO East contract in Network Contracting Office (NCO) 8 as a Contract Specialist providing support to the VA Contracting Officers on procurement actions to include completing market research, requests for quotes, modifications and closeouts. Gabe has provided exceptional support and we have received nothing but glowing feedback from the client!

As someone who has been through the process, Gabe recommends these tips for anyone transitioning into civilian life:

  • Begin the transition early by learning skills and getting the education needed for civilian life
  • Save money since there will likely be a change in salary and benefits
  • Take advantage of the benefits offered by the military after transitioning (ex. GI Bill)

Thank you for your service, Gabe, and for sharing your experiences with the #VMSIFamily!
