Laurie and Molly began their journey, The Long Ride Home, on May 25th, 2015 in Tempe, Arizona, with one goal: Travel 10,000 miles, through two countries, to raise money for Boulder Crest Retreat for Military & Veteran Wellness!!

Article 6 in a multiple-series story:

Laurie and Molly embarked on their extraordinary adventure more than three months ago and, so far, it has been a wild ride! Despite a few bumps in the road, the mother-daughter pair pressed on and are now in the home stretch of their 10,000 mile bike ride to raise awareness for Boulder Crest Retreat in Bluemont, Virginia!

After an extended stay in The Windy City due to getting a few necessary repairs for Molly’s bike, the riders headed out of Chicago and continued their trek to Warrenton, Virginia.

Along their route, Laurie and Molly have made a point to visit a multitude of veteran hospitals, centers and memorials. Continuing with this practice, the two rode across the Brooklyn Bridge to the National September 11th Memorial in New York, New York.

The stoic appearance of this meaningful monument strikes a chord with every American who watched the World Trade Centers crumble in 2001. Two large square, recessed pools, which overlay where the Twin Towers once stood, honor the 2,983 civilians, law enforcement officers, firefighters and military personnel who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

This tranquil memorial rests on what was once known as "Ground Zero".

Serene waterfalls cascade over each side of the monument, flowing into the center and creating a living memorial to remember those whose names are etched in the bronze plates lining the two reflecting pools. After taking in the affective beauty of the September 11th Memorial, Laurie and Molly resumed their journey to cover the last few miles between New York and Virginia. Their homecoming is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, September 1, 2015, in Warrenton, Virginia after exactly 100 days on the road. VMSI is thrilled to participate in their homecoming and we can’t wait to welcome them back!
